Gareth Porter wrote (about the above):
The story of Israel’s “false flag” operation in recruiting for and supporting the Jundallah terrorists highlights the reality that the U.S.-Israeli relationship has two aspects: one is the extremely close collaboration in which the United States has dutifully supported a wide range of Israeli policies that are objectiv…ely harmful to the interests of the American people. The other aspect is that there are occasionally very sharp contradictions between the interests of the Israeli administration and the U.S. administration. The false flag affair is one of them; Israel’s assassinations of Iranian nuclear scientists and violent sabotage of missile and nuclear facilities also appear to be in that category. And Netanyahu’s clear threat to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities is a far more important one. The challenge to opponents of U.S. and Israeli militarism and terrorism is to recognize that that the contradictions that have surfaced recently are occurring within the context of the dominance of U.S. fealty to Israeli government interests, enforced by the overweaning power of the right-wing Likudist forces over key institutions in the U.S. political system — but that these contradictions offer best opportunity available for activist efforts to mitigate that power and reduce the likelihood of war against Iran.
