Jeb Bush, James Baker, and the Pro-Israel Mega-Donors: The Making of the Republicans’ Middle East Policy
Stephen J. Sniegoski
The following is my new essay “Jeb Bush, James Baker, and the Pro-Israel Mega-Donors: The Making of the Republicans’ Middle East Policy.” The essay connects Jeb Bush’s fumbling to the need to satisfy the pro-Israel mega-donors such as Sheldon Adelson and Paul Singer, who were enraged by his team’s inclusion of James Baker on a long list of foreign policy experts. The essay goes back to the elder Bush’s administration to explain the reason for that animosity. The upshot of all of this is that pro-Israel mega-donors are shaping a Republican Middle East policy in total accord with the views of the Israeli Likudniks. I might add the Democrats, especially Hillary Clinton, are not very different, and I will deal with HC and her major pro-Israel backer, Haim Saban, in a forthcoming essay.
